Zauchensee is little known by the British but is a true jewel in the Austrian crown. It is primarily a fantastic skiing area and linked access to a huge variety of skiing areas, all covered by one lift pass. The resort itself is superbly located amongst the surrounding mountains so we tend to get great conditions summer and winter. The beauty of this area is that they are not nearly as busy as many other mountain resorts so it's easy to please yourself on how you chose to spend your time.... so don't tell everyone!

Summer in Zauchensee

During the summer months, Zauchensee plays host to MAGIC MOUNTAINS - an eight week programme of imagination-packed, fun-filled events for families with children big and small, as well as singles, couples and everyone who loves having fun on the mountains.There are qualified sports instructors on hand to get kids of all ages out surfing and sailing on the lake, mountain biking in the hills, playing football, tennis, badminton and basketball. And while the children are occupied, there are relaxing, pampering spa treatments for the grownups with sociable evening events once the kids are in bed! We can even provide a baby sitting service. MAGIC MOUNTAIN is a perfect activity vacation for families with children of all ages as well as for anyone who just loves having fun on the beautiful mountains, in the sun, by the lake and amid fresh, clear air. It is a friendly village with a great choice of authentic Austrian restaurants and bars with a traditional "chocolate box" appearance and feel. Overview

Skiing in the Ski amade region offers unbeatable choice. With over 850kms of piste and 270 lifts, Zauchensee and its immediate neighbours form part of the Austria's largest ski and snowboard area, and offers some truly great skiing and boarding for families and groups of friends. The area spans over 25 separate ski locations with masses of inter-connecting ski slopes so you can continue to find new runs even after weeks of touring. The facilities and friendliness will make your stay even more enjoyable!

Snow sure

Even though Zauchensee sits at a moderate altitude (1300m), the town itself sits in the valley floor with the slopes extending to considerably greater heights (2400m). Due to the location of Zauchensee in its bowl-shaped winter-wonderland, gets much better snow coverage than many of its neighbours, and other resorts at similar altitude. This factor, along with an abundance of north facing slopes, means the snow often lasts well into May, and the conditions are often significantly better than the snow reports would suggest.

Skiing in Zauchensee

Zauchensee is a very charming friendly resort with many tree-lined runs and a diverse range of skiing that will entertain all levels and tastes for weeks! The mountain is very well featured and provides not only many miles of excellent skiing, but wonderful scenery for touring too. Families and beginners are very well catered for and experts have a wealth of skiing available to them as well, on and Off Piste.

Snowboarding in Zauchensee

Zauchensee is a fabulous resort for snow boarders of all levels. As well as the tree lined pistes, there are plenty of Off Piste areas to enjoy. A neighbour of Zauchensee is the superb area of Flachauwinkl, the home of "The Absolut Park". "The Absolut Park" (Home to the ATOMIC Freestyle competition) is a snowboarder/free style skiers paradise. You can more or less ski/board on everything you see. There are all kinds of ramps, rails, jumps and kickers as well as a half pipe. They even have a practice air bag area to practice your big air tricks. The Freeride terrain and Off Piste is also excellent in this resort, and Zauchensee is the seasonal choice of residence for many British and foreign professionals. See the video

Beginner Skiing in Zauchensee

The resort has a great deal to offer beginners, and the range of inexpensive children's facilities that really helps Zauchensee stand out from the crowd. A good range of kids clubs and nursery slopes, as well as circuits of gentle runs for easy cruising, and hardly any drag lifts (great for beginners), make it a very popular choice for beginner skiers, boarders and families.

Advanced, Experienced & Extreme Skiers

As well as the fantastic off track and off piste adventures that are available in Zauchensee we offer a trip (conditions permitting) to The Dachstein Super Park and glacier for snowboarders and alpine skiers (the season here can start as early as August). This area is setting new standards in the construction of fun parks: rails, kickers, corners  - everything to make the hearts of snowboarders and free skiers beat faster. The events (e.g. the "Pleasure Jam" in the autumn) are "THE"  meeting point for the stars of the skiing & boarding scene! If it's good enough for the Warren Miller ski film you won't be disappointed.

"Austria's National Ski Tour": the Dachstein crossing also commences on the Dachstein. A further 15 tours nearby and anyone on the Dachstein should not miss out the experience of the "Freeride Edelgriess". Sure-footedness and advanced ability are required to weave your way over the south mountain, back to Ramsau. In insider circles, it rates as the best freeride descent in the Alps. The famous Falk Skiatlas has rated the Dachstein Tauern Region with its Dachstein Superpark in the category " Best for snowboarders" internationally in the top 3! You may want to just visit the area just to take in the breath-taking views and scenery. As this area is a glacier, the skiing season starts in the autumn.
